I finally finished a pair of mittens for Ethan. I had been feeling guilty ever since the chilly Michigan winter season started. My poor baby is always bundled up in a hat, down jacket, and boots but no mittens to keep his little hands warm. So I finally put one project aside and worked on the mittens. And I wasn’t going to stop until I finished them! Yes, I was pretty determined there — I think mainly because they are so tiny and was actually simple to make. I used a pattern from the Oliver + S Little Things to Sew book. I absolutely adore this book. I recently purchased it and have already flagged a few projects on there. Not sure when I will get to them, but they’re on my list!
Here are some pictures of the mittens by itself and also modeled by Ethan. I used a light gray fleece for the material. Soft and toasty for little hands.
Ethan seems to like them. And more importantly, they stayed on his hands! Unfortunately, he didn’t get to wear them out today as the weather was super warm (50 degrees)! Can you believe that?!
So on to some bad news. As soon as I finished the mittens, my sewing machine started to act up. It made a very weird squeaky noise as the needle came down to sew onto the fabric. As you can imagine, I was terribly bummed. And horrified. I only had the machine for six months! I spent an hour trying to fix it last night, but no success. And it couldn’t have happened at a worse time. A friend of mine just had her baby this past weekend (congrats, K!) and I planned to make her little one a welcoming gift. Now it looks like I won’t get to make anything and will have to resort to retail. Ugh.
The machine is being analyzed at a shop now. Please wish it luck!
